Eastern Orthodox MySpace

I heard an ad on Ancient Faith Radio for an Orthodox MySpace. Interesting. If you’re Orthodox and want to enter into an online community of Eastern Orthodox Christian visit the Orthodox Circle.

My frist thought was: that’s nice, I’ve found it isn’t always easy to make contact with other Orthodox Christians in online communities.

My second thought was: wouldn’t it be creating an Orthodox ghetto in cyberspace?

Many of us who live in countries where Orthodox Christians are a minority have non-Orthodox friends and contacts, and through general social networks there can also be an Orthodox witness to them.

For example, I created a “tribe” for Orthodox Christians in my area on Tribe.net – Orthodox Christians in Gauteng. It hasn’t got many members yet, but it’s a start. And my Tribe.net friends who share other interests can also discover Orthodox events and happenings. I’ve done something similar on Facebook.

I agree with you Steve. This is an interesting project and maybe it will encourage conversation in a particular way that will be helpful for some, but the salnt and light factor seems to challenge us to be people who walk seperate in the midst.
